“Hondo and Boots” 16″ x 20″ Acrylic on Canvas
I recently completed “Hondo and Boots” for Mary Katherine. She wanted to give it to her mother, Karen, on her birthday.
Mary Katherine provided the picture (below) of Hondo and Boots, the family’s Blue Healers. The only thing she really wanted handled differently from the picture was the background. She wanted the mountains in the background to be a little darker. The darker background in the painting actually makes the dogs’ faces stand out a little more.
I made a bit of a change from the photo with the dogs’ eyes and highlights on their coats. I wanted to make sure that if you looked at the painting from across the room, you did not see blobs of dark color for their eyes and coats. So, I accentuated these areas with lighter color than the photo indicates, while hoping to retain the essence of each dog.
